Yesterday we met our birth mom! She was great and we had an amazing time visiting and getting to know her better. But this post isn’t about her (that will come later)…it is about her flowers….
It is a good ice breaker to bring a small gift, such as flowers, to the first meeting of a birth mom. So this story starts out 2 hours before the meeting was scheduled. Chris decided that he really needed a haircut, so I walked down to Kroger to check out the floral selection. I wanted the perfect arrangement, so I wasn’t willing to wait until we only had one store to choose from.
It didn’t take me long to find the perfect vase. Then I just stood in front of a hundred bouquets of flowers, for what seemed like 10 minutes. Finally, a voice came from behind me.
“Can I help you?” came a voice that seemed almost tickled that I was struggling so much picking out flowers. “Is this for Easter, birthday, a friend?”
I just smiled, and chuckled to myself at the thought of my trying to explain to this woman what my flowers were for.
I will never forget the look on her face, or how her smile grew with each word of my explanation of who the flowers were for.
She was a birthmother! Her placement had been 10 years ago!
The next 20 minutes were filled with amazing, ‘from the Lord’ conversation! She got to tell me her story of choosing an adoptive family and the placement. She talked about how glad she was that she has an open adoption, and how precious the letters and pictures are when she gets them. I got to, in turn, tell her what an amazing self-less woman she was!
It was a full 20 minutes of her encouraging me, and my edifying her! It was the Lord!!
Not only did we find the perfect arrangement of flowers for our birth mom, but they were put together with a love and understanding that I could have never dreamed to ask for!

O.K., I didn't REALLY want to tear up at 7:15 on a Saturday morning, but you made me with this story!!! God is so, so cool. I bet if that "flower lady" has a blog, she just wrote about it as well and how you blessed her. Thanks for sharing this amazing journey.
Love,
